Bridge Football Academy Team

Director: Nick Housden

Nick is currently the Talent ID Manager & U16s Lead coach with Cheltenham Town FC as well as Business Director with Bridge Football Academy. Nick set up Bridge to ‘bridge the gap’ between Grassroots and Academy Football, overseeing 10 lads signing for pro clubs in its first year. Nick is a highly experienced coach having worked full time at a variety of clubs including Cheltenham Town and Notts County FC. Nick has also worked extensively within the mens game as a coach at Cinderford Town and First Team Analyst at Gloucester City during their title winning season.

Football Coach: Luke Norman

Luke is a UEFA B Licence coach with ambitions to complete his UEFA A Licence & Advanced Youth Awards in the future. Luke has represented the Football Association (FA) in a number of roles including being an FA Skills Coach & a Coach Mentor for young aspiring coaches. Luke is a Foundation Lead Coach within Cheltenham Town’s Academy and also works in schools delivering PE as a Multi-Sports Coach. Luke is a fun, dedicated and driven coach and very popular with players within the Bridge Football Academy programme.

Football Coach: Mike Devlin

‘Spike’ Played locally at Windsor Drive before signing for Swindon at 14, staying there for three years before moving onto Luton and then Gloucester City. He represented the ‘Tigers’ for four years before finishing as a player at Tuffley Rovers. Spike is a fun, bubbly coach and will only wear Black Boots!!! Quals – Level 2 qualified coach with ambitions to progress onto his UEFA B Licence. Spike is also FA First Aid qualified, safeguarding qualified and DBS Checked.

Football Coach: Dan Virgo

Dan is a new coach to the Bridge Football Academy programme and is currently in his first year as an assistant. Dan has already passed his Level 1 with ambitions to progress onto his Level 2 this season. Dan had a strong playing background as a youth player representing Cheltenham Town, Forest Green Rovers and then later Shortwood & Brimscombe FC’s too.

Football Coach: Jerry O'Connell

Jerry joined us in 2019 as a coach and comes with a very strong playing background. Jerry begain playing at around 10 years old playing for both Cheltenham Town Youth & Cheltenham District Schools. Jerry progressed to join Aston Villa at 15 years old, signing apprentice forms with them under Brian Little. Following this Jerry returned to Cheltenham Town FC before ending his playing career at local clubs Borough Utd & Endsleigh. Jerry wants to give something back to the game helping young players develop and progress. Jerry is keen to progress with his coaching qualifications and brings a wealth of playing experience to the coaching team.

Football Coach: CJ Price

CJ joins us as a strong local player now progressing into his coaching journey. CJ has played for a variety of local clubs including Tuffley Rovers U18s, Mitcheldean & Quedgeley Wanderers. CJ is now a coach for both Prospect Training Services & Fit Active Children delivering PE in schools. CJ has held a large array of coaching roles including GK Coach at Gloucester FA, a YPD coach for Gloucester City and is currently Assistant Manager at Viney St. Swithins. CJ was recently appointed a scout for Cheltenham Town Academy & is a Lead coach with us at Bridge Football Academy. CJ is well qualified with both is Level 2 in outfield and goalkeeper coaching, his level 2 in Talent Identification, his level 1 in ‘Futsal’ and is a qualified coach with disabled footballers.

Football Coach: Lewis Spurrier

Previous Academy player himself Lewis went on trial at a variety of clubs including Birmingham City, Southampton, and Bristol Rovers before signing for Bristol City. Lewis them moved to Forest Green as an u15, securing a two-year scholarship with the club. Lewis completed both his Level 1&2 whilst playing as a scholar there. Lewis made his debut for FGR and got more appearances from the bench, Lewis is now playing semi professionally with Cinderford as well as coaching with Bridge Football Academy.

Director: Gerard McGinty

Gerry is a highly qualified and experienced coach with not only a UEFA A Licence but also an Advanced Youth Award (AWA) under his belt. Gerry has a Degree in Physiology & Sports Science, and is the current YDP Lead at Cheltenham Town FC overseeing U14s, U15s, U16s. Gerry joined Cheltenham Town following a spell with Barnet as a YDP coach and as head of Maidenhead United’s Academy. Gerry is the Director of coaching with Bridge Football Academy and is responsible for the technical programme delivered to the players, aswell as coach CPD. Football Coach: Simon Beardsell

Simon is a UEFA B Licence Coach with youth Modules 1,2 & 3. He is an ex Cheltenham Town Academy Coach, working there for 6 years. He has coached a variety of age groups from U8s to U16s. Ex Broadwell Manager, now Quedgeley First Team coach in the County League. Back in his playing days Simon was an ex scholar with Swindon Town and played across the Southern League for many years.

Bridge Ambassador: Simon Goodwin

Simon is an ambassador for Bridge Football Academy – supporting the exciting expansion projects currently being undertaken. Simon is a former Southampton FC & Cheltenham Town player. Simon has also played for Bishops Cleeve, Evesham Utd and Pershore Town. Simon was the youngest ever first team player for Cheltenham, a record he holds till this day!! Simon was assistant manager at Bishops Cleeve under various managers and has also coached youth players at Gloucester City, Evesham, Bredon and now at Tewkesbury Town. Simon loves the work done by Bridge Football Academy getting boys signed by pro clubs & lends his support to them at every opportunity he can.

Football Coach: Holly Mustoe

Holly comes from a strong local playing background having played for a variety of Grassroots clubs since she first began playing aged 6! Holly took her Level 1 coaching course at 16 years old, passing this before progressing onto sixthform and then University. Holly recently graduated and now has a BSc (Honours) Degree in Sports Coaching. Holly is now Head Coach with Abbeymead and is looking to progress onto her Level 2 in the near future! Holly is now an Academy Coach with Bridge and will play a pivitol role in the set up of the all girls sites coming later this year.

Football Coach: Mark Middlecote

Mark is a well experienced and qualified coach. Mark played for Tuffley Rovers throughout his adult career and began coaching with his son’s Grassroots Team. Mark worked at West Brom Development Centre developing and learning from some experienced and well qualified A Licence coaches. When the Centre transitioned to Aston Villa, Mark decided it was time for a fresh challenge and joined Bridge Football Academy. Mark is now a scout for Cheltenham Town FC and is looking forward to progressing with his coaching and recruitment journey in the near future.

Goalkeeper Coach: Nigel Morecroft

Nigel has vast goalkeeping playing and coaching experience. He is an FA and FAW Qualified Goalkeeper Coach and B Licence ‘designate’. He is currently Assistant Goalkeeper Coach at Cheltenham Town FC Academy, Goalkeeper Coach at Cheltenham Town FC Development Centre, Head Goalkeeper Coach at Bridge Football Academy, Academy Goalkeeper Scout for Cheltenham Town FC and 1st Team Goalkeeper Coach at Quedgeley Wanderers FC.

Nigel runs his own Cheltenham and Gloucester Goalkeeper development Centre, currently training over 35 goalkeepers from a wide variety of clubs across Gloucestershire, from ages 8 to adult.

Goalkeeper Coach: Ian Jenkins

Ian joins us as goalkeeper coach, to support Head Goalkeeper Coach Nigel Morecroft with the expanding dedicated goalkeeper training sessions held on Tuesday evenings.

Ian has over 3 years goalkeeper coaching experience, working at Cheltenham and Gloucester Goalkeeper Development Centre, coaching U9s to adults. He is FA goalkeeping qualified and looking forward to progressing his goalkeeping qualifications in the coming season.
